Okay, stop me if you've heard this one:
A woman stops in at a quilting blog. This woman is a lapsed quilter (LQ), and the blog is a friendly source of refreshment after a long day. It seems LQ does more looking than sewing these days. And her stash of fabric grows more outdated by the year. So a site that features bright new fabrics and scrappy selvage projects? No wonder there's always a crowd at this
Anyway, on this particular day, the
Well, you guessed it ... LQ wins 4 FQs and receives them in the mail, lightning quick. She is happy.
Oh dear, is there supposed to be a punchline? Or a snappy wrap-up to the pub metaphor? Well, LQ can only offer a tongue-twister:
Four free flat fat quarters flashy fresh Kaffe Fassett fabrics flew fast first class.
Seriously, Karen Griska at The Selvage Blog is amazing. She is one of those inventive, creative quilt artists so generous with ideas, features and tutorials. Her blog is lighthearted and encourages interaction, with "Quilts in Movies", and "What's the Funniest Thing Anyone Has Said About Your Quilts?".
I do not know Karen, and she definitely does not need my endorsement. But she is the reason for my big plastic jug of selvage strips. Although I used to save them to tie up tomato plants, for the past several years this Lapsed Quilter has had loftier plans for those selvages. Maybe 2012 is my year !!!
Visit the Online Quilt Museum, founded by Karen. There is a lot of info and opportunity for exhibiting here ... and so many links.
Check out Karen's Etsy shop, Karen Griska Quilts for finished quilts (including minis), books, patterns ....
Thanks Karen, for all the inspiration on The Selvage Blog, and for these lovely fabrics I keep rearranging on my kitchen table.
I will be linking to Sue's Valentine's Day Rednesday. I have no hearts in this post, but thanks to Karen & Kaffe, I do have some cheery reds.

It's okay to be green with envy, right? ;) Seriously, those are some fab fabrics! Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the kind words!
ReplyDeleteI still want to hear the one about the duck that walks into the bar! Haha. When you make something with your selvages, email a photo to me for the Selvage Blog. Even if you use some for tomato plants. :)
Happy quilting!
Quilting is one thing I've never attempted, except for a few very small ones that I call "tie quilts", using bits of yarn to hold in place. Although I don't quilt, I am a fabric hoarder and have trouble resisting any fabric new or old. I don't have time to sew these days, but one can only hope someday! It's one of the few things in life I'm really good at!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog! I've really enjoyed yours. What gorgeous fabrics. Wish I had the talent to sew, quilt, anything...
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower too!
I know I'm a bit late with this but congrats on winning the fat quarters. Quilting is one thing that I have not attempted (my mom quilts though). I love quilts and have a couple of vintage ones. One was made by my great aunt's mother back in the 30's and the other I found at a thrift store. I have them displayed in my guest bedroom.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment on my blog tonight!

I've only collected a few selvedges so far. I never thought to keep them in a jar. Good idea, thanks.
